More Than Just Recording

Most Discord voice recorder bots stop at capturing audio. You end up with a raw audio file that nobody wants to listen through again. The real value of recording a voice channel is not the recording itself. It is the information inside it.

NotesBot handles the entire pipeline from start to finish. It joins your voice channel, records every speaker with individual audio streams, merges the audio into a single file, sends it through AI-powered transcription to produce a full text transcript with speaker labels, and then generates a structured summary with key decisions, action items, and discussion highlights. All of this happens automatically when you type /leave.

Whether you run a remote team, a gaming guild, a study group, or any other Discord community, NotesBot turns your voice conversations into searchable, shareable documentation. Instead of asking everyone to take notes manually, let the bot handle it so your team can focus on the actual conversation.

Recording Bot vs NotesBot

A standard Discord recording bot gives you an audio file. NotesBot gives you everything you need to act on what was discussed.

How the Voice Recorder Works

Add NotesBot to Your Server

Invite NotesBot to your Discord server with a single click. The invite asks for a small, fixed set of channel permissions and no admin access. It needs to see and join your voice channels, and to post in the text channel your notes go to.

Type /join in Any Voice Channel

When you are ready to record, use the /join slash command. NotesBot enters your current voice channel and immediately begins capturing audio from every participant.

The Bot Records Every Speaker

NotesBot uses voice activity detection to capture each speaker as a separate audio stream. This ensures accurate speaker labeling in the final transcript, even in calls with many participants.

Type /leave to Get Your Summary

When the conversation is over, type /leave. NotesBot stops recording, processes the audio through AI transcription and summarization, and posts the structured summary, the transcript and an optional MP3 in the channel your server sends notes to. By default the notes arrive in a thread under the text channel they post in rather than as loose messages, and /config switches that to plain messages. The transcript comes with it as a timestamped .txt file in Discord, and the whole call is archived on your dashboard at notesbot.io.

The entire process takes just a few minutes after your call ends. For a detailed walkthrough of all commands and configuration options, visit the getting started guide.

Everything You Need in a Voice Recorder Bot

Multi-Speaker Recording

Captures every participant in the voice channel as individual audio streams. No matter how many people are talking, each voice is recorded clearly and separately.

AI Transcription

Converts your recorded audio into a full text transcript with market-leading accuracy, speaker labels, punctuation, and proper formatting. Know exactly who said what.

Smart Summaries

Generates structured summaries with key topics, decisions, action items, and next steps. Get the highlights without re-listening to the entire call.

MP3 Downloads

Download the full recording as an MP3 for archival, sharing, or offline listening. The MP3 is kept for 14 days and then deleted automatically. When a recording is too large to attach in Discord, the download link NotesBot posts expires after 48 hours. Grab a copy inside that window if you want to keep it.

80+ Languages

Record and transcribe voice channels in more than 80 languages, with automatic language detection and nothing to configure. Ideal for multilingual servers and international teams.

Custom Prompts

Customize how your summaries are generated with the /config command: focus on specific topics, highlight certain speakers, or format notes your way. On a shared plan, settings come from whoever's plan pays for the recording.

Two Recording Modes

Not every voice channel call is the same. NotesBot offers two distinct recording modes optimized for different situations. You can switch between modes at any time using the /config command. /config is your own panel, and the settings that apply to a recording come from whoever's plan pays for it. On a server where one plan covers everyone, that is the account holder.

Meeting Mode

The default mode, designed for meetings, team standups, and structured discussions. Records up to 2.5 continuous hours per session and produces a concise structured summary of decisions, action items, and open questions.

Best for: Team meetings, project updates, interviews, and one-on-ones.

DnD Mode

Built for tabletop RPG sessions and long gaming calls. Extends the limit to 5 continuous hours per session and switches the summary to a campaign format: a cinematic session story plus structured notes for NPCs, loot, and encounters.

Best for: D&D campaigns, gaming sessions, community hangouts, and brainstorms.

Who Uses a Discord Voice Recorder Bot?

Remote teams use NotesBot to document daily standups, sprint planning sessions, and retrospectives without pulling anyone away from the conversation to take notes. The AI-generated summary captures decisions and action items so nothing falls through the cracks.

Gaming communities record raid planning sessions, strategy discussions, and guild meetings. DnD Mode ensures every callout and side conversation is captured during fast-paced gaming voice chats.

Educators and study groups use the bot to record lectures, tutoring sessions, and group study calls. Students can revisit the full transcript instead of relying on incomplete handwritten notes. With support for more than 80 languages, multilingual classrooms work seamlessly.

Content creators record podcast-style Discord calls for later editing, community managers document town halls and feedback sessions, and project managers keep an accurate record of every decision made across distributed teams.

Recording More Than One Channel at Once

A busy server rarely has one conversation. Two meetings in two rooms, or a community hangout while an officer call runs next door, can both be recorded at the same time.

NotesBot itself records one call at a time. Each assistant bot you invite to the server adds one more, up to 7. The assistants join the voice channel and record; they never post, so the notes always come back from NotesBot in the channel you expect.

Every call running at the same time draws on the same hour balance, so two recordings for an hour spend two hours. Invite as many or as few as you need:

The invite asks for View Channel and Connect, the two permissions that matter, and never Speak. More on recording several calls at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Discord voice recorder bot capture audio?

NotesBot joins your Discord voice channel and records each speaker individually using advanced audio stream processing. It captures audio from every participant in the call, labels each speaker, and merges everything into a single chronological recording. The entire process is automatic once you type /join.

Is it legal to record Discord voice channels?

Recording laws vary by jurisdiction. In most cases, you need consent from all participants being recorded. NotesBot announces its presence when joining a voice channel, so all participants are aware recording is taking place. We recommend informing your community about recording practices and obtaining consent where required by local regulations.

What audio format does NotesBot record in?

NotesBot captures individual speaker segments in OGG format, which is Discord's native audio format. These segments are then merged and converted into a single MP3 file for maximum compatibility. You can download the final MP3 recording directly from your Discord channel after the session ends.

Can the bot record multiple speakers, or multiple channels, at the same time?

Yes. Within one call, NotesBot records every speaker in the voice channel simultaneously. Each person's audio is captured as a separate stream with voice activity detection, then combined into one recording with accurate speaker labels, whether the call has 2 people or 20. Recording several channels at once is a separate thing. NotesBot records one call at a time. Each assistant bot you invite to the server adds one more, up to 7. There are 6 of them, they join and record but never post, and every call running at once draws on the same hour balance.

How long can I record a Discord voice channel with NotesBot?

Recording duration depends on your subscription plan. Each Discord account gets a one-time 30-minute free trial with no credit card, and it does not renew. Paid plans run from $3 to $40 per month, 5 to 100 hours of recording. There is also Annual at $96 a year: 240 hours for the year, granted up front. Hours reset each cycle and do not roll over. A single session runs up to 2.5 hours in Meeting mode and up to 5 hours in D&D mode. When a session reaches its cap the recording is processed as normal and you can start another one right away, as long as you have hours remaining.

Each Discord account gets a one-time 30-minute free trial with no credit card, and it does not renew. Trials are also capped per server: three people and an hour and a half of trial time in total, and a server covered by team billing skips trials altogether.
